One thing is certain and that’s the fact people love to shop.
Traditionally they bought at little cornerstores and markets . Not so long
age age it was the mercantile store,
in the center of town. People from out side of town
would make special trips probably once a week to get their supplies for the
following week of in
many cases for the next winter. Anyone that lived in the out back
brought winter supplies.
At times our parents would send us to pick up home needs such as eggs and milk when
the household ran short of these things. Now you can buy groceries on the
net with the click of a mouse. 3 How have things changes. We remember the
local merchants in our town. He was the one that had all of the buying power. You
had to buy your products from him or you didn’t buy them any where. He was the
only game in the town. In many cases he owned you in a real sense because much of the
time people borrowed the products and charged them in advance. Then you made the
payments at the end of fishing or harvesting season. His prices was not negotiable. And people had to buy at his
set prices.
Today many things are quite different and we now can thank the modern advances of
technology for that. We can always say that we like the old days but in reality I
don’t really think many of us would when to go back to the hard ways of the past.
